The Freshman Transition
The transition from middle school to high school isn’t always an easy one. It can often times be frustrating, confusing, and overwhelming. Beginning this year, Smithfield High School is taking steps to try to ensure a successful year for freshmen. The 2014-2015 school year will mark the second year of SHS’s 9th Grade Academy. The aim of the program is to help freshmen adjust to the high school experience a bit better, both academically and socially. All ninth grade students will share the same common group of core teachers (English, Math, Social Studies, Science). This teaming approach should allow students to be more comfortable in their learning and the people around them while at the same time integrating them into the high school environment. Teachers in the program are looking forward to working with the new ninth graders. The ninth grade teachers that are members of the science department are Mrs. Samantha Armstrong, Mr. Jacob Sosnowski and Mrs. Elizabeth Russillo. We all look forward to a successful year with the ninth grade students.
